We apply the latest advances in medicine, research and technology, and use a multidisciplinary approach to improve the health and functioning of our patients. Dr. Pirouz Piran, MD
Neurology & Critical Care
Dr. Pirouz Piran is a highly skilled and accomplished Neurologist with extensive training, experience, and expertise. His unique qualifications, including double fellowship training and quadruple board certification, set him apart from many other neurologists.
Dr. Piran completed his Critical care/neuro ICU fellowship at Johns Hopkins, one of the most respected institutions in the field. He then received his Vascular neurology fellowship training at the prestigious Weill Cornell in New York City, where he was appointed stroke fellow and led residents in daily teaching rounds. Dr. Piran’s neurology training took place at Cleveland Clinic in Florida, during which he served as the chief resident in his final year.
Currently, Dr. Piran serves as Clinical Professor of Neurology at California Northstate University College of Medicine. He offers a wide array of services in Southern California including general neurology, vascular neurology, epileptology, neuro ICU, and critical care medicine. With his impressive qualifications and commitment to providing exceptional care, Dr. Piran is a trusted and highly respected physician in his field. Dr. Piran provides compassionate and comprehensive care to a diverse patient group, which includes professional fighters, martial art professionals, race car drivers, football players, and any patient suffering from any type of neurological disorder
Education and Training
Dr. Piran’s 17 years of training at some of the world’s most prestigious medical centers, including Cleveland Clinic, Weill Cornell, and Johns Hopkins, have equipped him with the expertise and experience to diagnose and treat nearly every type of brain disease. He is recognized for his ability to diagnose and successfully treat some of the most complex and rare neurological disorders, making him a respected and trusted leader in his field.
Dr. Piran began his training by completing his internal medicine and neurology training at Cleveland Clinic, which is widely recognized as one of the most comprehensive clinical and research centers in the world. During his time at Cleveland Clinic, he was awarded the outstanding Resident of the year award and served his final year of neurology residency as the Chief resident.
Dr. Piran continued his training by completing his first fellowship in Vascular Neurology at the distinguished NewYork-Presbyterian Hospital-Weill Cornell Campus. As a stroke fellow, Dr. Piran was responsible for leading residents during daily teaching rounds, as well as managing the most complex cases of acute ischemic and hemorrhagic stroke. His research on ischemic stroke and visceral infarction while at Weill Cornell was presented at the annual meeting of the 2019 International Stroke Conference held in Honolulu, Hawaii.
Dr. Piran then pursued a second fellowship in Critical Care Neurology at the prestigious Johns Hopkins Hospital, which is known for being the first institution in the world with a dedicated neurosurgical and post-operative neurocritical care unit. During his training at Johns Hopkins, Dr. Piran played a vital role in managing some of the most complicated cases of traumatic brain injury, post-operative neurosurgical management, and other neurological emergencies. His expertise in neurocritical care makes him one of the few neurologists in the country who can provide personalized and comprehensive care to critically ill patients with various types of neurological injuries and diseases.
Research and Publications
In addition to his clinical expertise, Dr. Piran is actively involved in research and education. He has authored several publications in high-impact peer-reviewed journals, presented his findings at national and international conferences, and served as a reviewer for numerous medical journals.
Teaching
Dr. Pirouz Piran’s commitment to education extends beyond his passion for research and clinical practice. He is actively involved in academic neurology, serving as a Clinical Professor of Neurology at California Northstate University College of Medicine. He believes in sharing his vast knowledge with medical students through active teaching as he goes about his daily work. His desire to cultivate a new generation of skilled neurologists demonstrates his selfless desire to give back to the medical community.
